Annotations Panel
The Annotations panel contains a list of all geometric annotations that have been drawn onto the image and allows the user to modify many of their properties.
To toggle the visibility of the Annotations panel
If the left sidebar is not displayed, toggle it by clicking on the Menu > button at the bottom left of the Viewer
Click on the button in the left sidebar to open the Annotations panel
Creating Annotations
To create annotations
From within the Viewer, right-click on an image to open up the annotation ring
Select an annotation tool
Follow the on-screen instructions at the top of the Viewer to draw
Follow the on-screen instructions at the top of the Viewer to end drawing
The following annotation types are available:
Tool | Instruction to create |
---|---|
Rect | Hold and drag to contain an area of interest. |
Arrow | Hold and drag to point to an area of interest. The starting point will be the arrowhead. |
Polygon | Click to add points. Click on the first point to close (end) the drawing or press Z to close automatically. Press Ctrl + Z to undo the last point. To pan while drawing, hold the Shift key and drag with the mouse. |
Freehand | Hold and drag to draw on the image. |
Ruler | Hold and drag to measure the area of interest. |
Ellipse | Hold and drag to contain the area of interest. The starting point will be the center of the ellipse. |
Bookmark | Click/tap to place an area of interest to place a bookmark pin on the image. |
Deleting Annotations
Annotations can be deleted from within the Viewer or from the Annotations panel.
To delete an annotation from within the Viewer
Select an annotation to reveal a dialog by clicking the border of the rectangle, ellipse or other shape
Click on the button at the bottom right of the popup dialog
Click on the OK button to confirm
To delete an annotation from the Annotations panel
If the left sidebar is not displayed, toggle it by clicking on the Menu > button at the bottom left of the Viewer
Hover or click on the button in the left sidebar
Identify the annotation entry to be deleted in the list
Click on the button
Click on the OK button to confirm
Editing Annotations
The following annotation properties can be changed from the Annotations panel or by clicking on the annotation in the Viewer, which exposes a popup dialog.
Annotation Color
There are 6 possible colors for annotations, these can be changed from within the Viewer or from the Annotations panel.
To change an annotation color from within the Viewer
Select an annotation to reveal a dialog by clicking the border of the rectangle, ellipse or other shape
Click on the solid circle at the top right of the popup dialog
Select one of the available colors
To change an annotation color from the Annotations panel
If the left sidebar is not displayed, toggle it by clicking on the Menu > button at the bottom left of the Viewer
Hover or click on the button in the left sidebar
Identify the annotation entry to be modified
Click on the solid circle at the top right of the entry
Select one of the available colors
Annotation Name
The name is a single line text field that supports unicode characters. The name is displayed on the annotation and can be changed from within the Viewer or from the Annotations panel.
To rename an annotation from within the Viewer
Select an annotation to reveal a dialog by clicking the border of the rectangle, ellipse or other shape
Click on the first line of text in the popup dialog (default: “Untitled”)
Provide a name or edit the existing text
Press the Enter key or click away from the textbox to save your changes
To rename an annotation from the Annotations panel
If the left sidebar is not displayed, toggle it by clicking on the Menu > button at the bottom left of the Viewer
Hover or click on the button in the left sidebar
Identify the annotation entry to be modified
Click on the first line of text in the entry (default: “Untitled”)
Provide a name or edit the existing text
Press the Enter key or click away from the textbox to save your changes
Annotation Description
The description is a multiline text field that supports unicode characters and can be modified from within the Viewer or from the Annotations panel. Enter new lines by pressing Shift + Enter.
To edit an annotation description from within the Viewer
Select an annotation to reveal a dialog by clicking the border of the rectangle, ellipse or other shape
Click on the second line of text in the popup dialog (default: “No description”)
Provide a description or edit the existing text
Press the Enter key or click away from the textbox to save your changes
To edit an annotation description from the Annotations panel
If the left sidebar is not displayed, toggle it by clicking on the Menu > button at the bottom left of the Viewer
Hover or click on the button in the left sidebar
Identify the annotation entry to be modified
Click on the second line of text in the entry (default: “No description”)
Provide a description or edit the existing text
Press the Enter key or click away from the textbox to save your changes
Annotation Visibility
Annotations are visible on the image by default once drawn. If you need to declutter the image, you may hide individual annotations or all annotations at once.
To change the visibility of individual annotations
If the left sidebar is not displayed, toggle it by clicking on the Menu > button at the bottom left of the Viewer
Hover or click on the button in the left sidebar
Identify the annotation entry to be modified
Click on the button to toggle visibility
To change the visibility of all annotations
If the left sidebar is not displayed, toggle it by clicking on the Menu > button at the bottom left of the Viewer
Hover or click on the button in the left sidebar
Click on the button at the top right corner of the Annotations panel to toggle visibility for all annotations
Annotation Sharing
Annotations may be shared with your team or kept private for the user that created them. Shared annotations are visible to all users in your team while private annotations are only visible to the user that created them.
By default, annotations are created as shared annotations. This preference can be changed from the Annotations panel by toggling the / button at the top right corner of the Annotations panel.
To toggle the sharing mode for individual annotation
If the left sidebar is not displayed, toggle it by clicking on the Menu > button at the bottom left of the Viewer
Hover or click on the button in the left sidebar
Identify the annotation entry to be modified
Click on the Shared/ Private button to toggle the annotation’s sharing mode
Locating an Annotation
While on the Viewer, annotations are easily visible and accessible.
To locate a corresponding annotation object (on the image) from the Annotations panel
If the left sidebar is not displayed, toggle it by clicking on the Menu > button at the bottom left of the Viewer
Hover or click on the button in the left sidebar
Identify the annotation entry
Click on the button to jump to the annotation in the Viewer
