PathcoreScholar™ Release Notes

v2.3 (2026-05-25)

This release of PathcoreScholar includes the Trash Can for user-managed file & storage recovery, enhanced security, improvements to the user experience and reliability, and bug fixes.

New Features

Trash

The Trash collects items that have been removed from the Repository and marked for deletion, but which have not yet been permanently erased. It provides a space for users to review and restore recently deleted items, and recover storage associated with unwanted files.

This feature allows for users to restore an item within 30 days of its removal from the Repository. Items that remain in Trash are automatically deleted after 30 days.

Hamamatsu MoxiePlex Support

PathcoreScholar has added support for Hamamatsu's MoxiePlex image format (an OME-TIFF variant).

Two Factor Authentication

With this release, PathcoreScholar Administrators can enable email two factor authentication (2FA) across their entire team. This improves the security of your users' accounts by requiring they enter a one-time temporary code sent to their inbox each time they log in.

Improvements

Login Flow

The login page for PathcoreScholar has the same look and feel, however the underlying functionality and workflow has been completely overhauled for better compatibility with browser-integrated password managers and SSO providers.

This improvement should also alleviate problems some users had with logging in and out.

Image Format Upgrades

  • Added support for Evident (formerly Olympus) VSI images with Max Intensity Projection (MIP) stacks. Previously affected sub-images are now visible in the Viewer
  • Expanded the range of supported wavelengths for NDPIS images to include emission wavelengths outside of 380 to 780 nm. Previously, these wavelengths rendered as black
  • Added support for embedded ICC profiles in Hamamatsu NDPI images which can improve rendering fidelity for images that have them

Search Improvements

  • Added new search conditions for Custom Fields: "is present" and "is not present". These check if a specific field has been assigned to an item, which mimics the behavior of "is empty" from versions before v4.2

Security Fixes

  • Fixed a potential security vulnerability in a library used by the process that renders Zeiss CZI images
  • Many other security improvements and upgrades

Image Format Fixes

  • Corrected a problem with certain OME-TIFF images where the magnification could not be read from the image metadata
  • Fixed a problem where thumbnail size enforcement could incorrectly cause certain MRXS thumbnails to appear all white
  • Fixed an issue with Hamamatsu S360MD NDPI image rendering caused by incorrectly applying the S360 color profile
  • Adjusted the heuristic used to identify Hamamatsu MoxiePlex images to account for format variations that caused some images to be incorrectly classified and displayed

Educator Fixes

  • Module and Page listings are now fetched in pages, reducing the amount of time to load the initial view. More items are automatically loaded as the user scrolls

Viewer Fixes

  • Corrected a problem with certain Hamamatsu MoxiePlex images where the macro image would not be recognized as such, causing it to be displayed in the Viewer alongside the main image
  • Fixed a problem with the "Add image overlay" dialog that would use an incorrect URL to link to the image to which the overlay was added
  • Fixed a problem that caused a "Something went wrong" error when viewing a fluorescence image if it had bands with empty names
  • Fixed a problem in the Viewer's Annotations panel that caused entries to show "Last Modified: 0 mins ago" regardless of how much time had passed since the last change

Repository Fixes

  • Fixed an issue that prevented label images from appearing in folder listings even when enabled
  • Corrected a problem where navigating to an invalid folder ID could produce excessive network traffic
  • Fixed issues with the folder quick search showing fewer or no results when the search included a special character
  • Corrected a problem with downloads that limited the path to 100 characters or less resulting in truncated file names
  • Repository name filter (search bar) will now clear when navigating between folders
  • Corrected a problem where users were presented with the option to download an image, but it would not work correctly because they lacked the "Protected Information->View" permission. The user interface will no longer offer a download option in this case
  • Popup dialogs for selecting a folder (e.g., Move, Copy, Search Location, etc...) now auto-load more folders instead of requiring the user to click "Load more"
  • Fixed an issue where certain folder columns — such as "Name", "Type", and "Last Modified" — remained visible even after being removed in the display settings
  • Fixed a bug where available tag options were not being filtered as text was being typed in the tag selector
    • Also moved the "+ New Tag" option to the top of the tag selector to better work with keyboard input
  • Fixed an issue where a user's list of tags could be truncated
  • Fixed a problem where the search filter in the cell selection dialog was not cleared after navigating to a new folder. Previously, this could lead to the impression that there were no items in the newly selected
  • Fixed an issue where the filter in the Move and Copy popup dialogs only performed exact matches
  • Fixed an issue where double clicking an attachment in icon mode would result in a Page not found error
  • Fixed an issue that allowed tags that only vary by case or leading/trailing whitespace to be added
  • Fixed an issue where image labels would not appear in folder listings after an update due to cached image metadata
  • Fixed a problem where certain options were displayed to users of share links, even though the actions would fail due to insufficient permissions. These include:
    • Rotating the image label
    • Editing the image description
    • Marking an image as read or favorite
    • Clearing the heat map
    • Deleting or renaming a snapshot
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the "Region Download Link" column in the "View Tracking" report to have the wrong URL when collecting annotations via a share link

Search Fixes

  • Fixed a problem where certain kinds of searches using specific locations could consume a significant amount of resources leading to erratic behavior across the system
