v5.0 (2026-09-28)
We're proud to announce PathcoreFlow v5.0 — a landmark update representing the most significant advancement in the platform's history. This release delivers comprehensive improvements across search, permissions, compliance, security, and storage, all wrapped in a refreshed user interface with meaningful usability enhancements.
Beyond the visible upgrades, v5.0 includes substantial architectural improvements that will power major new features in upcoming releases. These foundational improvements include an enhanced storage infrastructure with built-in archival capabilities and a much more flexible access control system supporting multiple access grants per user. While these particular features will be exposed in future updates, the backend changes done in v5.0 makes them possible.
Every improvement in this release is purpose-built for high-volume and big data workflows in toxicologic pathology and spatial biology — the areas where our customers face their most demanding workflows. Whether you're managing thousands of whole slide images, coordinating large team collaborations, or navigating complex regulatory requirements, PathcoreFlow v5.0 delivers the performance, control, and flexibility you need.
New Features
Updated User Interface & Navigation
PathcoreFlow v5.0 introduces a refreshed, modern design while preserving all existing features and adding new capabilities.
Repository Navigation
A collapsible tree structure enables quick access to deeply nested folders without leaving your current folder, streamlining actions like Repository navigation.
Top Bar
A new persistent top bar places frequently used tools at your fingertips, including global search, streamlined tag access, and application settings.
Storage Utilization Summary
All users can now see storage utilization at a glance in the Repository navigation sidebar. More detailed analytics are still available on the Storage Statistics page.
Search Enhancements
Search functionality has been completely redesigned for ease of use, and to enable a unified search system across the whole Repository, with new filtering options in folder view and the Viewer.
Search Interface
The redesigned search interface introduces "Quick Filters" that let you build even more complex queries and do so with fewer clicks. You can save these queries and apply them throughout the Repository and Viewer.
Global Search
A new Global Search feature in the application's top bar lets you find Repository items from any location quickly. Search for images, folders, and other items by keyword without leaving your current folder.
Folder Search
In-folder search now supports complex filtering based on any Custom or System Field. Easily find files in larger studies in your current folder by name, modified time, or any metadata field.
Search Anywhere
The redesigned search page features a more powerful query builder that can search across the Repository, trash, and unsorted uploads areas.
Permission & Data Management
New permission flags enable even more finer-grained control over users' access to the system. Along with this change the permission matrix dialog has been redesigned to ensure dependencies between permission flags are clearly explained and enforced.
Permissions for Protected Information
Three new permissions have been introduced to provide granular control over access to protected information: "View slide label," "View filename," and "View protected fields." These replace the previous "View protected information" permission, which has been eliminated. Administrators can now grant or restrict access to specific protected data elements rather than using a single blanket permission. Existing Roles and custom permission grants are automatically updated to reflect this change, so current users are unaffected.
Permissions for Annotations
Two new annotation permissions have been added: "View private" lets users see other users' private annotations, while "Manage annotations" allows users to edit all shared and private annotations in the system. These permissions provide better control over annotations in blinded studies and when annotators are offboarded from the platform.
Multiple Access Grants
The new accessible content backend supports multiple data groups per user (backend implementation complete; frontend features planned for future release).
The default System Roles will automatically receive the appropriate new permissions, but Custom Roles will need to be updated by an administrator.
Security Upgrades
Enhanced protection for organizations and collaborative teams, and continuous improvements around the information security posture.
Two-Factor Authentication
Two-factor authentication via email is now available as an optional feature that adds a critical layer of security beyond standard passwords. Teams can enable this setting as needed via the Team Settings page. Users authenticating via SAML or LDAP are not affected.
Idle Session Management
Idle session timeouts are now enforced with a default limit of 14 days, replacing the previous unlimited period. Organizations can customize the timeout value.
Concurrent Session Management
The number of concurrent sessions per user can now be limited by administrators, but remains unrestricted by default.
Both of these features are available with the new User Session Management add-on. Organizations wishing to set session limits can contact their account manager for details.
Vulnerability Scanning
Continuous automated scanning now covers application containers, source code repositories, and SaaS environment configurations.
License Management
An improved license management system provides better tracking of concurrent and active user sessions.
Login Warnings
The system login flow warns when usage exceeds available licenses, though users retain the ability to access the system by acknowledging the warning. In the future, additional restrictions may be introduced.

Numerous bug fixes and general performance improvements throughout the platform.
Fixed in this Release
Security Fixes
- Fixed a potential security vulnerability in a library used by the process that renders Zeiss CZI images
- Updated other libraries used to address several potential vulnerabilities
- Fixed a potential security risk in a library used by the Image Indexing Service and Upload Client
Image Format Fixes
- Corrected a problem where certain CZI images might not be detected as images
Viewer Fixes
- Fixed a problem in the save dialog for Figures where the folder selector would sometimes show "Loading..." indefinitely
Repository Fixes
- Fixed an issue where incomplete uploads that were moved to the Trash showed two warning icons instead of one
- Fixed an issue where an empty Trash page would display a link to the Team Settings for users without permission to access it
- Fixed a couple of locations that still referred to PHI (Protected Health Information) rather than PI (Protected Information)
- Fixed an issue where image labels would not appear in folder listings immediately after an update due to the image metadata cache not being cleared
- Fixed a bug where recipients of a Share Link could be directed to the login page if the integration with Indica Labs HALO is enabled
- Favorite / Unfavorite context menu items have been changed to Add Star / Remove Star
- Fixed an issue that prevented quick searching Custom Fields on attachments and Figures in the Metadata sidebar
- Fixed a problem where labels would sometimes not appear immediately after upload/indexing, but would then appear hours later
Integration Fixes
- Corrected an issue where the "Open in VIS" feature could be very slow when opening MRXS images
Other Fixes
- Fixed a problem where logging into the Pathcore Upload Client would fail with an error
- Fixed a problem that could cause the Pathcore Upload Client to crash if it was configured to scan a path that it did not have access to
- The Pathcore Upload Client 2.2.3 is now available for download
- Fixed a problem with the file checksum background task that could cause it to consume more resources than intended, impacting overall performance
