Search


Search can be used for finding files and folders in the Repository. Various search boxes throughout PathcoreFlow provide an easy way to narrow listings of items to only those that are of interest to a user.

Types of Searches

Search boxes generally provide access to one or two of the three available types of searches: keyword, simple, and advanced.

A keyword search is the most basic type of query. It matches against the names of the items in the list (and occasionally another field, such as description). This type of search does provide some flexibility in that it may include one or more wildcard characters.

Keyword search boxes are typically plain text input boxes with a Magnifying Glass icon and the word "search" in its placeholder text. The Global Search box is an example of a keyword search.

To perform a keyword search

  1. Click in the Magnifying Glass Search box associated with the items you wish to filter

  2. Type in the filter you wish to apply, including any desired wildcard characters. Only the items which match will be displayed

A simple search allows a user to select either a System or Custom Field from the attached dropdown menu, and find only the items where that field matches against the typed query. This search also allows the use of wildcard characters.

Simple search fields have a dropdown list of appropriate fields, and an attached text input box with the Magnifying Glass icon.

To perform a simple search

  1. Click in the Magnifying Glass Search box

  2. Select the metadata field you wish to filter on from the dropdown menu

  3. Type in the filter you wish to apply. Only items which match this text in the selected metadata field are returned

An advanced search is composed of several conditions, each of which filter results on a specific metadata field. These conditions may be grouped together and combined using logical "and" and "or" operators. This — along with the ability to nest groups — provides users an easy method to create fully customized and powerful queries.

A search box which supports these advanced features can be identified by the Add Condition button within the input field and the Filter Off button to its right. The Search Page, Repository Folder Listing, and the Viewer's Browse Folder panel all support advanced search (BioPharma package only).

To begin an advanced search query
  1. If necessary, click on the Filter button to the right of the search box to enable advanced conditions
To add a condition to an advanced search query

  1. Begin an advanced search query

  2. Click on the Add Condition button to add a new condition, or click on the Recent dropdown menu to select one of your recently used fields

    a. Select a field from the dropdown menu

    b. Select an operator from the dropdown menu

    c. Fill in the field under Select Value

    d. Click on the Done button to save the search condition

    e. Repeat as necessary to add more conditions

To add a condition group to an advanced search query

  1. Begin an advanced search query

  2. Bring up the context menu by right-clicking (or tap and hold on a mobile device) on the Add Condition button

  3. Select Add Condition Group from the dropdown menu

Condition groups are indicated by parentheses around the contents (i.e., ( and )). Groups can also be nested within each other.

If more than one condition group has been created, they can be combined using the logical "and" and "or" operators. Click on the and/or field to toggle between these options.
To remove a condition from an advanced search query
  1. Click on the Remove Condition button at the right of a condition field to remove it
Removing the last condition in a group also removes that group.
To remove an entire condition group from an advanced search query

  1. Bring up the context menu by right-clicking (or tap and hold on a mobile device) on the parentheses (( or )) surrounding the condition group

  2. Select Remove Condition Group from the dropdown menu

To execute an advanced search query

When your advanced query is complete, you can click on the Search button at the right-hand side of the search bar to see the results of your search

To clear everything in an advanced search query

  1. Click on the Remove All button at the right-hand side of the search bar to clear your search

    This will also clear any Search Targets that have been set.

Toggling Between Search Types

Some search boxes provide two different types of searches. These can be toggled so that a user can use the appropriate tool depending on what they are looking for. These can be identified by the Filter or Filter Off icon, and can be found in the Search Page, the Repository Folder Listing, and the Viewer's Browse Folder Panel.

To switch between two different types of searches

While using a search box that supports multiple search types:

  1. Click on the Filter or Filter Off button to the right of the search box to toggle between the two search modes

Wildcard Characters

Most search boxes accept wildcard characters — placeholders that can match against multiple characters, so that an exact filename or field value need not be entered. The following wildcard characters are used in PathcoreFlow:

  • . (period) - Matches any character exactly once
  • * (asterisk or star) - Matches any character zero or more times

Search Locations

While browsing the Repository, a user can perform a keyword search of the names and descriptions of all items everywhere within their set of Accessible Content by clicking into the Magnifying Glass Global search box located in the top bar and typing their query.

A reduced set of results will be shown in a dropdown panel, and clicking on the Enter All results button or pressing the Enter key will take the user to the full search results on the Search Page.

Clicking on a Magnifying Glass icon next to a Custom Field value anywhere will take the user to the Search Page and perform an advanced search for all items in the Repository that have that specific field with the same value that was clicked. The search can then be modified to a different value for the same field, or by adding other conditions.

Search Page

The main Search Page can be used to find specific items from the entire Repository. Depending on which package is configured, the search can be toggled between two different modes:

Search Targets are always available regardless of package.

The search box above the items in a Folder Listing can be used to restrict which items in the current folder are displayed. Depending on which package is configured, the search can be toggled between two different modes:

Viewer

The Viewer's Browser Folder Panel allows a user to search for other images in the same folder as the currently opened image. Depending on which package is configured, the search can be toggled between two different modes:
